Holding Yourself in Your Journey


We look at other people and how amazing they are, 

at something they’ve worked on for years and years.

We see ourselves as less than,
but we don’t see what it took for them to get there.
It wasn’t always easy.

Very easily, we fall into the trap of thinking:
“I can never do it.”
or
“I could do it even better.”
But the truth is, we’re not actually doing it.

If we are drawn to something, it’s probably meant for us.
But then comes the question: Are we willing to hold ourselves in growth and evolution?

It may look messy at the beginning.
It may be all over the place.
It may take time until we find our path.
And it doesn’t even have to be a fixed path,
because we are constantly evolving and changing.

The thought that it must be a fixed path, one we already know,
makes it more difficult.
Let’s just go, and we’ll grow our way into who we are meant to be.

But can we hold ourselves in the learning?
Can we have compassion for ourselves
like we have for a child learning to walk?

Very often, we are so hard on ourselves
that we don’t even start
or we stop because we feel ashamed that we’re not “nailing it” yet.

Imagine if a child were ashamed to walk
because it couldn’t walk yet.
It would probably never learn to walk.

But this is exactly what we do to ourselves.

We think we have to be as great as people
who have developed a skill for decades,
and we compare ourselves to them
and feel small.

Or, we can choose to hold ourselves no matter what
because it’s not about others.
It’s about our own path.
About becoming who we are
in our fullest expression.

We cannot compare this with others.

Just keep walking, keep learning.
We can learn from others, of course
not by taking from them,
but by walking with them.

Some people will remind us of what’s possible.
They will remind us of who we are.
That’s the beauty of it all.

An Example

Speaking English, for me, isn’t natural.
The biggest challenge is actually confidence.
But I keep going and keep going.

Because I have to, and I want to 
for a bigger reason:
to find my truth, even if it’s messy at times.

I have to speak, and I have to speak English. I just know.
Where this goes, I have no idea.
I just hold myself in the growth.

I am priority one

I put everything else first above my own growth. I dream of doing what I love, finding out about who I am and what I came here to do. But you know what, I do not put myself on the spot. I avoid this. Everything else is more important. The washing, next year’s Christmas presents, anything really. When I have done everything, then I can follow my dream. But this never happens. I have to make it priority one. I have to put myself on the spot. It is very uncomfortable because we are used to having people telling us what to do, giving us deadlines. So how do you lead yourself? Nobody teaches about this. So what I did this morning. I put one hour down to sit here with myself and put myself on the spot. Even when I put myself on the spot, I often underperform. I don’t go to my full capacity, as if we would constantly need something to measure against, compare ourselves. This is just conditioning, to have someone tell you what to do and to have someone to compare yourself with. This is not it....

LET’S MAKE UP SOMETHING MEANINGFUL

Everything is made up. But I feel strange making up my own thing. The jobs, the buildings, the countries, the rules, the schools, the competition, the comparison. All made up by humans. Even emotions are learnt. The rage, the anger. I get so mad when I have to figure something technical or with numbers, because my dad always got mad. I don’t really get mad. I just learnt that in those situations, it’s normal to get mad. Programming is passed down over generations, and we don’t even notice it. So why are we still fighting? Because rage, hate, and trauma are passed on through generations. We are not evolving emotionally. But this is the era where that begins. To evolve at an emotional level, you sit and feel the emotion. Ask yourself: where did I first feel or learn this? Then sit and feel it again each time it arises. Especially when you express anger. Let the emotion out safely. Because the way we respond to things is often programmed into us from a very young age. If we really think a...
